Stepping up his election campaign on Wednesday, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State promised to commence a N500 million Housing Estate for workers in state by January 2018.
Obiano made this promises when he spoke to workers at this year’s public Service Day held at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat Complex, Awka on, adding that workers deserve better living and working condition.
He told the workers that the Anambra State Executive Council was already considering making the existing contributory pension non-compulsory, to ensure that workers had something to fall back on after service.
The governor who was apparently wooing the civil servants for his second term bid promised to continue ensure yearly promotions for them, while urging them to vote en-masse for his return at the November 18 governorship poll.
The Anambra State Head of service, Mr Harry Udu, had earlier highlighted some of the achievements of the Obiano administration since he assumed office, stating that such were enough reasons for workers to vote for him.
He listed the offsetting of backlog of pension and gratuity to former workers of Anambra State Service (ABS) and Anambra Newspapers and Printing Corporation (ANPC) publishers of national Light newspapers as some of those achievements.
The head of service enjoined the workers to vote for the governor and his team at the upcoming election.
