A yet to be identified cult group that allegedly operating within Sasbet Hotel, Igando, Lagos, has attacked and seriously wounded a newly posted Divisional police officer (DPO), Mr Ogoezi Sufade Rawlings, a Superintendent of police (SP).

The DPO who was formally at the police mobile Force, was said to have led his men to rescue some victims trapped at the hotel premises, when he was attacked and his right hand fractured.

Trouble was said to have started on January 4th, 2018, at about 11.40pm when one of the victims (names withheld), escaped from the hotel located near Afolabi bus-stop, lgando Area along Igando – Lasu- lba Express way, after he was forcibly initiated by the cult leader known as SS and his phones, some money stolen from him.

The escaped victim was said to have dashed into the Police Division, alerted the DPO that the cult group where conducting initiation of new members within the hotel premises.

When the DPO and his men stormed the hotel at about 12 o’clock mid- night, they were said to have met stiff resistance as the hotel security guard identified as Taiwo denied him access into the hotel, thereby allowing some of the suspects to escape by scaling through the rear fence.

A reliable police source told our correspondent that one out of the four suspects already in police custody had attempted to disarm the Dpo of his official service pistol, while resisting arrest, by hitting his right hand with an iron rod, which allegedly led to the bone Fracture he sustained.

At the police Division, the injured DPO declined comments, but our correspondent confirmed that he was seen on plaster of Paris (POP) bandages on his right hand.

However at the hotel premises, fear of arrest looms in d air as most of the staff decline comment.

Efforts made by our correspondent to reach the proprietor of the hotel, Oba Samuel Adeoye, who is an Ondo State monarch, for comments proved abortive, as he was said to be out of Lagos.

Reeling out details of the incident, the Assistant Manager and a Supervisor in the hotel identified as Abe and Segun respectively, confirmed that the hotel Manager known as Ade, a Private security guard from Agbara Estate Security Services, known as Taiwo and two cult suspects, Sandra and Emmanuel (aka) Manefe were arrested by the police.

However, Segun denied that the hotel is used for cult activities. According to him, it was while the police officers were beating Taiwo near the wall that the DPO hit his right hand on the wall.

“This allegation of cult group meeting here is unknown to us. Whenever we see some strange people visiting our hotel, we do ask them to go. It is true we know Emmanuel called Manefe and Sandra but there was no initiation in our hotel.

Even, it was while the DPO and his men were kicking and beating Taiwo our security, that he mistakenly hit his hand on the wall”

While assuring that the private security company has opened a line of discussion with the police over the incident, the chief security officer, who would want to be called Mr. Marcus, promised to give our correspondent details of their efforts to bail Taiwo from detention.

As at press time, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officers ( PPRO) Mr Chike Oti, a superintendent of police (SP), promised to confirm the incident.
