Ex-convict, 16 Others Arrested for Cultism


The Federal Special Anti- Robbery Squad (FSARS) of the Police Lagos State command has again smoked out 16 notorious cultists from their hideout who have been terrorizing Jakande Estate, Lekki Ajah, Ilasan, Ketu and other locations in the state.

The suspects were identified as Segun Arinze, (not related to the popular) movie and entertainment icon) 31; Oloyede Babatunde, 24; Idowu Peter, 29; Gbenga Odusanya, 37; Ismaila Ogunnoiki, 39;Timothy Steven, 22; Salam Sodiq, 30, while items recovered from the suspects include seven cutlasses, one Battle-axe and knife.

Commissioner of police Lagos State, Edgal Imohimi said the suspects were arrested based on the information received on May 9  that some cultists identified as Eiye Confraternity  were  located somewhere  at Jakande Estate, Lekki area of Lagos state.

“As soon as I get the information I immediately instructed an officer in charge of Federal Special Anti- Robbery Squad (FSARS) Ikeja to move with his team after a painstaking undercover operations arrested the suspects”.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to be members of the notorious Eiye Confraternity cult group a.K.a ‘the Birds’ that have made life a nightmare for the habitant of Jakande Estate and Lekki area of Lagos State.

The suspects were identified as Azees Idris, 28; Andrew Awalebi 38; Wale Oyekan, 40; Uche Ibo, 38; John Dayo, 20; Tajudeen Oluwatisin, 30, Azees Olayemi 21; Femi Arowojobi, 21 and Joseph Kolawole.

Edgal, said the ring leader of the notorious group, Andrew Awolebe, popularly called flying BIrd, confessed that he was initiated into the group in 1990 by one Efrebor and that he had been convicted twice after being charged to Ebute Meta Magistrate court as a result of inter- cult clashes in Ajah/ Lekki area where many lives were lost”.

Meanwhile, the CP, Edgal, said, the following items were recovered from the suspects are, One locally made single barrel pistol, two battles axes, two daggers, one cutlass, charms and a pair of red regalia.

Similarly, the command was also paraded along with other 10 suspected cultists who have been terrorising various locations of Lagos State.

According to the Commissioner of Police, CP, Edgal, said, based on credible information the suspects were arrested in different locations of the state by the undercover operatives of Lagos State Police command.

Edgal, however, said all the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
